Lamar University's online Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling has been ranked No. 2 in onlinecolleges.net’s list of Best Online Masters in Counseling programs for 2016.

The program offers low tuition, and students who choose the program may be eligible for a $10,000 grant from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that jobs in the field of counseling and social work will grow 19 percent in the years leading up to 2022, which is 8 percent higher than the average estimate for growth in other occupations.

The Lamar program focuses on practical skills, as it gives the students opportunities to work alongside health professionals in mental health and clinical settings. Additionally, the program is designed to be completed within 30 months, though students can choose a slower pace to fit their schedule. Two residencies are provided to students and are helpful in beginning a career in the field.
