Ashford University held a military speaker event Tuesday called “Elevate Your Military Cultural Competence: A Student Panel” in honor of military appreciation month.

Current Ashford military students and alumni who have served or have a current military affiliation were featured during the panel discussion. The event was held at Ashford’s Sunroad headquarters in San Diego and had approximately 70 guests in attendance. More than 100 people viewed the event online.

Local students, faculty and staff were given the opportunity to listen to first-hand experiences about life as a military student. The panelists of the military speaker series also spoke about special services, groups or accommodations that cater to the military community. The discussions focused on the exploration of the military culture and going above and beyond to meet the needs of military students.

Richard Pattenaude, an Army veteran, Ashford’s president emeritus and a professor of political science at the university, was also in attendance as a special guest speaker. Thad Trapp, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.) and Ashford's divisional vice president, moderated the panel.
