Berry College recognizes four outstanding alumni

Berry College recognized four distinguished alumni this week with four awards.

The Distinguished Service Award was presented to class of 1953 alumna Joy Whaley, who has served as a nurse in Georgia and Tennessee for approximately 50 years. She worked with the Whitfield County, Georgia, Health Department as a lead public health nurse and, before retiring in 1999, was a nurse practitioner specializing in women’s health. She also was a nurse manager.

Roger Lusby III, a trustee for the college and graduate of the class of 1979, was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award. Lusby heads the accounting firm of Frazier & Deeter in Alpharetta, Georgia. He was one of the National Academy of Accounting Professionals’ Top 10 CPAs in Georgia for 2015.

Chris Hayes, from the class of 2004, was awarded the Berry College Outstanding Young Alumni Award for his work in child welfare, Previously affiliated the Floyd County, Georgia, Department of Family and Children Services and FaithBridge Foster Care, he works with Bethany Christian Services as a regional director for northern Georgia.

The Alumni Entrepreneurial Spirit Award was given to Tricia Steele, class of 2009. Steele is the founder and CEO of SAI Digital, which serves as a digital agency that offers web application development to serve financial and health care industries.
