The Farm Services Agency of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the Pikeville Farmers Market  recently sent representatives to the University of Pikeville to meet with the school's Team Rhizofeed members in a discussion on available regional services.

"We must explore every avenue available to us to expand our economy," Pikeville Chancellor Paul Patton said. “Small-scale agriculture is one of those avenues. The Farm Service Agency is one of the federal government agencies with resources including loans and grants that can help our farmers. More of our citizens should be taking advantage of their programs.”

An organic feed additive for the poultry industry has been developed by Rhizofeed from bloodroot grown in Eastern Kentucky. The all-natural additive was produced to supplant the use of antibiotics in the poultry industry. This will provide an inexpensive feed to help farmers raise larger chickens.
