Blinn College's board of trustees introduced a proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year during its regular meeting this week.

This budget amounts to $107.9 million. Within this proposal is a salary increase for staff and full-time faculty that would amount to 3.5 percent. For part-time faculty, there would be a $50 increase in pay for each course that is taught.

Blinn is expecting to see expansions in many areas and it notes that reserve funding totals $46.5 million. In this budget, tuition and fees make up approximately 66 percent of income for the college’s operation. There is an expected $29 million or 32 percent of its funding from the state and the remaining 2 percent is reported to come from property taxes in Washington County.

Overall, this budget poses a 1 percent increase of the college’s previous operating budget. The announcement also notes that the addition of the surgical technology program and the expansion of the A.W. Hodde Jr. Technical Education Center has increased overall operational costs.

The board has also approved a change order with Vaughn Construction in order to support the college's facility at Texas A&M’s RELLIS Campus.
