Stamping its seal of approval on advanced STEM scholarship, Brown University recently initiated a 16-month Executive Master’s degree program in science and technology to prepare the next generation of industry leaders.

The new initiative — the Executive Master in Science and Technology Leadership (EMSTL) program — is accepting applications for the course's initiation in March 2017. Engineering, science and technology professionals are expected to drive growth in fast-growing international market sectors.

“As scientific and technological innovation reshapes the global economy, industry professionals need to go beyond their traditional technical or engineering training,” Anubhav Tripathi, professor of engineering and EMSTL’s executive academic director, said. “EMSTL will prepare them to accelerate their careers, broaden their impact and propel their businesses forward.”

Brown officials hope to draw specialists with five to 15 years of previous technical experience who are looking to achieve higher leadership, communication, strategic thinking and decision-making skills. Sponsors envision the program as one in which students can bring a well-rounded approach to their studies.

EMSTL strives to bridge industry and academia. Tripathi heads a research group that works in tandem with corporations. Sandra Smith, serving as program director, brings two decades of business expertise, including marketing, sales, platform development and operations. She expressed enthusiasm for the high quality of faculty and other involved personnel, as well as the new program itself.

“If you are an accomplished professional working in science, engineering or technology looking to accelerate your career, this program is the perfect fit,” Smith said.
