Emporia State University President Allison Garrett connected with lawmakers and others in Washington, D.C. this week.
During the visit, Garrett and ESU Legislative Liaison Brian Denton spoke with members of the Kansas Congressional delegation regarding the university's planned Memorial to Fallen Educators. The announcement notes that the bills are non-fiscal in nature and would not have any financial transactions associated with it.
Garrett has called on Kansas representatives to co-sponsor the bill.
Garrett was also able to meet with ESU alumni and with members of the Council for Opportunity in Education. There was a dinner event that welcomed alumni in the area.
“We had a number of current students in Washington who were also able to engage with our alumni,’ Garrett said.
The visit also consisted of meetings with officials from the Paraguay and Colombia embassies, where Garrett was able to detail university programs and to discuss potential collaborative relations. Meetings also took place with the American Library Association, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the U.S. Department of Education.
