Julia Fischer has been named the Distinguished Faculty Lecturer for 2016 by Lamar University.

Fischer is an assistant professor of art history at Lamar and has been a member of the university’s faculty since 2013. For the topic of her lecture, Fischer has chosen, “Raiders of the Lost Art: the Monuments Men and Their Legacy.”

“I was very honored and surprised to be selected for this honor since this is just my third year here at Lamar,” Fischer said. “I am excited to be able to tell the story of the Monuments Men more in depth.”

Fischer’s lecture will explore the Monuments Men in more detail and historic accuracy than the 2014 film. More specifically, the film shows the recovery of stolen art from the Neuschwanstein Castle that made it look like it only took a few hours when the process really took almost a year.

“I like ‘The Monuments Men.’ But of course they had to take some artistic liberties,” she said.

The lecture, which is sponsored by ExxonMobil, will be presented this fall and hosted by Lamar's Faculty Senate. It is free and open to the public.
