The Center for World University Rankings recently included the University of New Orleans among the top 1,000 universities in the world, placing it 633rd globally and 181st in the United States.
The center determines its rankings based on
quality of education and training for students, prestige of university faculty
and quality of research from the institution. The rankings are established
through independent information on quality of education, alumni employment,
quality of faculty, publications, influence, citations, broad impact and
patents. The center examines more than 25,000 institutions around the world to
determine its top 1,000.
Four universities from Louisiana made it
into the top 1,000, including Louisiana State University, Tulane University and
UNO, which is in the top 2.6 percent of institutions worldwide by virtue of its
placement on the list.
The top five institutions in the world come from the United States and the United Kingdom, including Harvard, Stanford, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Oxford.
The United States boasts the most institutions in the top
1,000, with 224, followed by China, Japan, the United Kingdom and Germany.
