Bridgewater presents Outstanding Senior Award in English

Kathleen Leigh, who graduated from Bridgewater College in May, won the school’s 2016 Outstanding Senior Award in English based on her performance as she worked toward her English degree.

In addition to majoring in English, Leigh earned secondary education and English Language Learners (ELL) endorsements, completing her student teaching at Fort Defiance High School. While working on her degree, she completed an honors project entitled “Engaging Struggling Readers with (Young Adult) Literature.” 

Throughout her time at Bridgewater, she also worked in the college’s Writing Center as a tutor.

Leigh is a member of Bridgewater College’s scholastic honor society, the Philomathes Society, and the school’s Flory Honors Program. On a state level, she is a member of the Virginia Association of Teachers of English and the national scholastic honor society Alpha Chi. 

In winning the 2016 Outstanding Senior Award in English, Leigh received a certificate and cash.
