Raquel Boudreaux, a senior education major at the University of New Orleans, has received the Tom and Kyle Clausen Scholarship.

The $625 scholarship is given to four UNO undergraduate students on an annual basis. The prerequisites for the award are that the students must be admitted to a teacher education program and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Anyone who chooses to teach in a shortage area, i.e. math, science, special education or in middle school, is a native of Louisiana, and is in financial need is given preference.

"I truly love kids," Boudreaux, who always wanted to become a teacher, said. "I can't wait to bring that fun and loving attitude to the classroom."

Janice Janz, an associate professor in special education, commended Boudreaux.

“During the spring 2016 semester, I was impressed with her enthusiasm for the classroom experience in special education,” she said. “She demonstrated strong professional skills, took the initiative to research the literature, and collaborated with both general and special education teachers for strategies to address the needs of the students with whom she was working.”
