Bridgewater College recently recognized Caroline Reid with this year’s Melissa Jett Community Service Award for her leadership during her time on campus, including volunteering and fundraising.

Reid majored in liberal studies and business administration and minored in Spanish, earning a position in national foreign language honor society Alpha Mu Gamma. She was on the college’s Conduct Hearing Board and the Committee on Teaching Education.

During her time at Bridgewater, she volunteered with the Rockingham County 4-H, completing internships with the Virginia Cooperative Extension 4-H over the past three summers, and fundraising for the Still Meadows Enrichment Center and Camp.

Reid’s name will be added to a plaque for the award, located in the Center for Cultural Engagement, and she received a certificate in recognition of the award. She plans to begin an 18-week internship at Disney World in Olrando, Florida, through the Disney College Program, in the fall.

The award is named after former Bridgewater student Melissa D. Jett who died in 1997 following a traffic accident while on campus. She would have graduated with the class of 1999, and her two years on campus were marked by service to others.
