James Danko, the president of Butler University, has been appointed to the Big East Conference’s NCAA Division I Presidential Forum representative.

One president or chancellor representing each of the 32 NCAA Division I Conferences makes up the Presidential Forum, which acts as the division’s presidential advisory body by handling future matters, challenges and prospects dealing with intercollegiate athletics and its association to higher education. The forum was originally created to assist athletics leadership at the campus, conference and national levels.

“We are very fortunate to have President Danko representing the Big East on this important and influential body within the NCAA governance structure,” Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman said. “His knowledge, leadership and experience in higher education will be invaluable as the forum looks to devise thoughtful and innovative approaches to the complex array of challenges confronting intercollegiate athletics.”

Danko is a former member of the NCAA Presidential Advisory Group. He has been Butler’s president since 2011. In 2013, he oversaw and was instrumental in Butler’s move to the Big East.
