The University of New Orleans (UNO) is pleased with the turnout
at its recent career fair.
In attendance at the fair were approximately 550 students
who were looking for jobs or internships offered by 130 employers.
Among the
employers were a number of Fortune 500 companies, including Entergy, IBM,
Laitram, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Coca-Cola, GE Digital and Boeing.
UNO Director of Career Services Celyn Boykin has declared
the event a success due to companies such as Chevron remaining on campus well
into the evening to hold private interviews and GE returning in October to
conduct more than two dozen interviews.
“When they come here, they want the UNO student,” Boykin
said. “A lot of these companies have leaders who are UNO alumni, and they want
to come back here.”
To prepare for the event, Boykin hosted a number of student
workshops.
The Career Fair was held on Sept. 29 and had to be moved
to a gymnasium in the Human Performance Center from a University Center room
due to the number of businesses and students that attended.
