Butler University recently announced that veteran police officer
John Conley has been named the university’s new chief of public safety.
Conley
will be succeeding Ben Hunter in the role.
Conley began working at the university’s police department
in 2014 after spending 40 years with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police
Department (IMPD). While with the IMPD, he served in many positions in
Operations, Investigations and Administration.
He also served as the Homeland
Security supervisor for the department and coordinated stadium security for
Super Bowl XLVI, as well as the district commander and deputy chief of operations.
Conley graduated from the FBI National Academy and is a
former recipient of the Indianapolis Police Department Police Officer of the
Year award, as well as the American Legion Spartan of Valor. The International
Association of Chiefs of Police also awarded Conley the Webber Seavey Award,
which was presented to him for Community Policing Excellency by Attorney
General Janet Reno.
