Tulane University's dining-services provider, Sodexo, recently donated its time to a yearly community effort.
In its third annual breakfast at Café Reconcile, the dining organization provided food to the staff and alumni, according to a news release. The café's mission is to provide food-service training to New Orleans youth who might not gain such experience without the café's presence.
Gerald Duhon, the executive director of Café Reconcile, believes the café allows those involved to act on their potential.
"Our mission is to provide opportunity to talented young people who want to transform their lives," Duhon said in a news release.
Travis Johnson, district executive chef of dining services at the university, spoke on the impact that the café has on participants, explaining how the managers enjoy the events as well.
"Our managers really love to get out in the community, and this is a great opportunity to come down and cook for the staff," he said.
One new member of the Café Reconcile community, Jeremy Robinson, shared his love for the program and the ways that it uplifts those within.
"They pray with you, they eat with you, and they support you," he said.
Another member, Jonas Stallworth believes the program gave him direction in life.
"I don't know where I would be if I didn't come to this program," he said.
