Indiana University-Bloomington's in-state tuition ranks 10th among large four-year public universities

Hoosiers who attend the mid-sized Vincennes University will pay 62 percent less than what Ohio residents are charged at the similarly sized Miami University-Oxford, according to a Higher Education Tribune analysis of in-state tuition at four-year universities in 10 Midwest states.

The Tribune compared 116 Midwest universities to their peers based on their enrollment, breaking down schools into those with more than 20,000 undergraduates, those with 10,000 to 20,000 undergraduates, and those with fewer than 10,000 undergraduates.

Indiana residents generally pay public-university tuitions that range from middling to below average in the 10-state area. Students attending Vincennes University, which has an enrollment of just under 19,000, pay only $5,575, compared to $14,736 for students at the Miami University-Oxford campus. That represents a $9,161 difference.

Among Indiana’s three large public universities, Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis had the 17th lowest in-state tuition at $9,205, while the Indiana University-Bloomington campus came in at No. 10. In-state tuition at the Indianapolis campus was 39 percent below the most expensive school, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which charges $15,058.

Vincennes University had the second lowest tuition among the mid-sized four-year-universities ranked in the analysis.

Indiana University campuses in South Bend, Kokomo and other parts of the state ranked among the bottom 15 schools in the under-10,000 category. Those campuses have in-state tuitions of $7,073.
