State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) issued the following announcement on March 27.
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) alumnus Stanley Cromartie was named this month to the Florida College System Activities Association Hall of Fame for men’s basketball. Cromartie, who is a member of the SCF Hall of Fame, was a standout basketball player for Manatee Junior College (now SCF) in 1982 under head coach Harry Kinnan, when he led his team to the Florida Junior College State Championship.
While playing for Manatee Junior College (MJC) in 1983-84, Cromartie was an All-Suncoast Conference selection and honorable mention All-State. He was inducted into the SCF Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. Cromartie entered the junior college coaching ranks in 1997-98 when he accepted the men’s basketball head coaching position at Valencia Community College. He then took the head coaching position at Seminole Community College in 1998 where he stayed for seven years. In five of those years his teams finished in the top ten in the state. As the interim head coach of the women’s basketball team at Seminole Community College in 2004, he led the team to a state tournament. His men’s team made the state tournament in 2005 and he was named the Mid-Florida Conference Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year. As a Division I assistant coach, Cromartie recruited several student-athletes from the junior college ranks.
In his role as director of intercollegiate athletics and head softball coach at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida, he also influences his head coaches to recruit from junior colleges. Cromartie serves as the chairman of athletic directors for the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.
