UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA: Parkway to Close April 27-28 for USA Triathlon

University of Alabama issued the following announcement on April 18.

USA Triathlon’s Collegiate Club and High School National Championships will take place April 27-28. The three competitions that make up the event are swimming, biking and running. The biking part of the competition will necessitate some road closures, which may require detours and create delays.

Friday, April 27 (6 a.m. – 2:05 p.m.)

Westbound and eastbound Jack Warner Parkway will be closed from 28th Avenue to McFarland Boulevard, with the stretch between 28th Avenue and North Campus Way being most affected during this time.

Exit ramps from McFarland Boulevard to westbound Jack Warner Parkway will be closed; exit ramps from McFarland Boulevard to eastbound Jack Warner Parkway will remain open.

28th Avenue from Jack Warner Parkway to Third Street will be closed.

Local accommodations and police escort systems will be in place for those needing access to businesses and residences along or on the river side of Jack Warner Parkway via Greensboro Avenue, 21st Avenue, Queen City Avenue, Guildswood Drive and Marr’s Spring Road.

Saturday, April 28 (5 a.m. – 5:45 p.m.)

Roads will close at 5 a.m. for both the bike and run portions of the event.

Jack Warner Parkway from 28th Avenue to the Paul Bryant Bridge will be the most affected stretch of road during this time.

Local accommodations and police escort systems will be in place for those needing access to businesses and residences along or on the river side of Jack Warner Parkway via Greensboro Avenue, 21st Avenue, Queen City Avenue and Guildswood Drive.

Additionally, local accommodations for access to the parkway will be made from Seventh Avenue Northeast east to the Westervelt Company.

All entrance/exit ramps at the McFarland Boulevard/Jack Warner Parkway interchange will be closed other than the northbound McFarland entrance ramp.

Paul Bryant Bridge from Jack Warner Parkway to Rice Mine Road Northeast will be closed.

Traffic will be permitted to travel down Rice Mine Road both northbound and southbound.
