ASHLAND UNIVERSITY: Ashland University Recreation Center Holds Summer Camps

Ashland University recently issued the following announcement.

The Ashland University Recreational Services Department is again providing recreation and sports programming to the surrounding areas during the 2018 summer season. Sports and activities youth camps for ages 5 to 12 run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and there are a number of sessions this summer.

Youth Camp Session 1 will be held June 11-15 with a registration deadline of June 6, while Youth Camp Session 2 will be held June 25-29 with a registration deadline of June 20 and Youth Camp Session 3 will be held July 16-20 with a registration deadline of July 11.

Campers will have the opportunity to participate in various sports and activities that will teach them teamwork, enhance fundamental sports skills and emphasize the importance of physical activity in living a healthy life. All camps include time each day for the indoor pool as well as the indoor climbing wall.

In addition, there are Camp Theme weeks, including:

-- A Challenge Week Camp from June 18 to 22 that focuses on teambuilding and teamwork challenges that will allow campers of all ages the opportunity to learn the important lessons of sportsmanship, fair play and fun. Teams will be created on the first day of camp and challenges will be a mixture of athletic and academic challenges. Campers of all ages will have the opportunity to contribute to the team and participants will enjoy the camaraderie they build with one another as they celebrate their achievements together. The registration deadline is June 13.

-- An Adventure Week Camp will be held July 9 to 13 and will allow campers to experience new adventures every day, with each day having a different theme. Past themes have included “super safari,” “outdoor survival,” “safety first” and “space is the place.” Each day is filled with fun activities such as participating in a safari treasure hunt, climbing the rock wall, making Mountain Pies, spending time in the pool, as well as time for creating exciting crafts such as animal masks, spaceships and beanbag whales. Registration deadline is July 4.

-- The Explorers Week Camp will be held July 23 to 27 and will allow campers to explore a different culture or continent learning and playing as they go. Ancient Japan, the Down Under in Australia and Antarctica are just a few examples of the destinations the campers have explored in the past. Activities such as a trail hike, archaeological dig, samurai warrior race, tea party, expedition climbing, and time in the pool all promise to make this week of camp something they won't forget. Registration deadline is July 18.
