CAMERON UNIVERSITY: Applications now being accepted for Cameron University Engineering and Applied Mathematics Summer Academy

Cameron University recently issued the following announcement.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 Cameron University Engineering and Applied Mathematics Summer Academy, a residential science academy that is open to Oklahoma high school students at no charge. The academy will focus on green engineering is slated to take place from June 10 to 15. To learn more or to apply, visit www.cameron.edu/engineeringandmath. The deadline for applications is Monday, April 30.

The academy will provide high school students with an enrichment program that will stimulate an interest in engineering and mathematics and help prepare them for careers related to engineering and mathematics.

During the 2018 academy, students will study and experiment with clean water systems by learning about renewable water engineering through hands-on sampling and system design. Students will work in the laboratory to enumerate pathogens in water samples and will then use this information to assist in the design of a portable clean water system. Following the engineering design process, students will research, design, test, and redesign their water systems.

Next, using their newly designed portable systems, students will strive to maximize their clean water output through the redesign process. The final project will include a design competition of the portable clean water systems based on set criteria, and a presentation during which students reflect on their design process and the growth they experienced during the academy.

Academy participants will be housed on the Cameron University campus in the Shepler dormitories. Participants will also enjoy field trips, team building activities, entertainment activities, and talks from successful engineers and mathematicians.

The 2018 Engineering and Applied Mathematics Summer Academy is made possible by a grant from Oklahoma Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (OK EPSCoR), funding from Cotton Electric Cooperative, NASA and Cameron University.
