UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH DAKOTA: Michael Card Named Interim Director of University Center-Sioux Falls

University of South Dakota issued the following announcement on May 9.

Michael Card, associate provost and dean of distance education at the University of South Dakota, has been named interim executive director at the University Center-Sioux Falls, effective June 22. Card takes the position vacated by Craig Johnson, who will become president of Ridgewater College, with campuses in Willmar and Hutchinson, Minnesota.

University Center is located in northwestern Sioux Falls and provides local access to the state’s public university system, with an emphasis on career-focused education at the certificate to doctoral program levels. UC focuses on serving non-traditional and placebound learners and works with the Sioux Falls community to drive individual prosperity and economic vitality for the Sioux Falls region and the state of South Dakota.

Card received his bachelor’s degree at USD in 1981 and a Master of Public Administration from USD in 1987. He received his Ph.D. in Public Policy & Management from The Ohio State University in 1992.

Card joined USD in 1992, specializing in the study of strategic management, leadership and organizational change within the School of Business. He moved to the Department of Political Science in 2002, where he taught public management to government and non-profit leaders. He was named associate provost and dean of the USD Graduate School in 2014. His title changed to associate provost and dean of distance education in 2016.
