About 33.4 percent of the 1,784 degrees and certificates handed out by the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in 2016-17 were to students in Engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.
The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Mayaguez conferred 507 bachelor's degrees and 82 master's degrees in Engineering programs.
But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General. Data shows the school gave out 159 bachelor's degrees in Biology/Biological Sciences, General, followed by 135 bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and 102 bachelor's degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The university enrolled 13,314 students for 2016-17, including 12,281 in undergraduate programs and 1,033 in graduate programs.
