About 18.2 percent of the 411 degrees and certificates handed out by the Gallaudet University in 2016-17 were to students in Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.
The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the private not-for-profit institution in Washington conferred 44 master's degrees and 26 bachelor's degrees in Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics programs.
But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication and Rhetoric. Data shows the school gave out 35 bachelor's degrees in Speech Communication and Rhetoric, followed by 27 master's degrees in American Sign Language (ASL) and 22 bachelor's degrees in Deaf Studies.
The university enrolled 1,566 students for 2016-17, including 1,121 in undergraduate programs and 445 in graduate programs.
