Cost of college went up for all students at Radford University

In-state tuition and fees rose 5.4 percent for 2017-18 at Radford University, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Virginia residents paid $10,627 to attend the four-year public institution this year $546 more than the $10,081 charged for 2016-17.

Non-residents paid 113.7 percent more than residents this year, or $22,709. Their price tag grew 2.5 percent from $22,162 in 2016-17.

About 92 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Virginia residents. About 7 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 79 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 918 students received grants or scholarships totaling $7.62 million and 1,329 students took out student loans totaling more than $10.08 million.

Including all undergraduates, 4,208 students used grants or scholarships totaling $33.77 million. Another 5,565 took out $36.28 million in federal student loans.
