University of Colorado Denver issued the following announcement on May 30.
CU Denver has named Melisa Baldwin, the current associate vice president of advancement at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, as its new vice chancellor of advancement following a national search.
In her new role, Baldwin will lead external fundraising and alumni and donor relations activities in support of campus priorities including student scholarships, educational programs and research initiatives.
“Melisa brings a breadth of development experience and impressive fundraising results from her previous work at several major universities. She is a team-oriented leader whose personal values align strongly with CU Denver’s mission,” said Dorothy Horrell, CU Denver chancellor. “She is the right person to take CU Denver’s advancement efforts to the next level, where even higher levels of support will create enhanced opportunities for our students and faculty to succeed.”
With more than 17 years of experience as a university development professional, Baldwin has contributed to growth in fundraising results in every position she has held. Most recently at Kennesaw State, she set the strategic direction and managed the operational execution of all fundraising campaigns, more than tripling annual giving in three years. Baldwin previously worked in development at Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, University of Florida and University of North Florida.
Baldwin will succeed Andrea Wagner, who retired earlier this month, as leader of CU Denver’s Office of Advancement. Under Wagner’s direction since 2015, the office exceeded its fundraising goals, enhanced donor and alumni relations, brought CU Denver’s largest gifts to fruition (including CU Denver’s first named building) and led the launch earlier this year of the LYNX UP scholarship campaign.
“I am excited to join an already successful team to move forward the great work occurring at CU Denver,” said Baldwin. “CU Denver’s connection to a vibrant city, its unique position as the only public urban research university in the state and its diverse student body provide amazing opportunities for philanthropy to help us foster student success.”
Baldwin starts at CU Denver Aug. 1.
