Lawrence Technological University issued the following announcement on June 29.

The name change of the Lawrence Technological University College of Management – to the College of Business and Information Technology – will be effective Sunday, July 1, 2018.

Bahman Mirshab, dean of the college, said the new name better reflects the range and scope of LTU’s programs and the unique strengths of being part of a technological university. The college offers bachelor’s degrees in five programs within business administration, a B.S. and M.S. in information technology, as well as six programs leading to a Master of Business Administration. Most have online or on site options.

Mirshab noted that Lawrence Tech “prepares leaders for many industries. But in particular, many of our students aspire to careers in complex and rapidly evolving high tech companies and organizations. LTU is situated at the apex of one of the world’s great centers of entrepreneurship, technological achievement, and innovation, and a region of tremendous productivity, vitality, and economic complexity. Opportunities to network, intern, and co-op with many Fortune 500 and other leading companies abound at Lawrence Tech, including some of the most technologically advanced companies in the world.”

In February, the College received confirmation of its accreditation by the prestigious AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AACSB is a hallmark of excellence; its accreditation is achieved by only 5 percent of the world’s business schools.

“LTU’s College of Business and Information Technology, enhanced with the AACSB accreditation, provides remarkable opportunities for students,” said LTU President Virinder Moudgil. “We look forward to the continued growth of our business programs.”

Lawrence Tech was founded in 1932, and its business programs were spun off as a separate college in 1939 from the University’s industrial engineering programs. During World War II, enrollment shrank as students departed to join America’s fighting forces or work in defense industries. In 1952, LTU business degrees as standalone programs were reconstituted, and changed names several times, before becoming the School of, and finally the College of Management in 1988.

The College’s mission statement reads: “Using a model of theory and practice, we prepare a diverse body of domestic and international students for successful careers in a variety of organizations through interdisciplinary educational programs that emphasize analytical, technological, ethical, team work, global management, and interpersonal skills essential in an interconnected world economy. Faculty engagement in scholarly activity and service to the University, the profession, and the community complements our primary commitment to teaching and service excellence.”
