82 percent of applicants to Western Michigan University were admitted for fall 2017

At Western Michigan University, 88 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 50 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Kalamazoo enrolled 22,869 students in fall 2017, including 17,936 in undergraduate and 4,933 in graduate programs, data shows. 9.3 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

85 percent of undergraduates are residents of Michigan, and 13 percent are residents of other states. 2 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (70 percent) and Black or African American (12 percent).

The school admitted 82 percent of the 14,263 students who applied for fall 2017. Of those who were admitted, 27 percent enrolled.
