Ashland University issued the following announcement on Sept. 6.

On Friday night, Sept. 21, Ashland University will open its doors to those throughout the area for a free concert as part of the “140 Years of Ashland” Homecoming celebration. This 7:30 p.m. event in Hugo Young Theatre will feature Cathi Muckle taking the audience back to another era with selections from Frank Sinatra in a concert titled “Cathi Muckle Sings the Sinatra Songbook.”

This free, non-ticketed event is open to the public and doors for the concert will open at 7 p.m.

The concert will feature Muckle, the daughter of Betty Clooney, who is Rosemary Clooney’s sister. Muckle, a professional singer and educator who lives in Las Vegas, actually toured with her legendary aunt and even recorded “The Coffee Song” with Rosemary Clooney, and has sung over 300 commercial jingles.

AU President Dr. Carlos Campo, who is the brother of Muckle, is slated to emcee the event. Muckle will be accompanied at the event by a jazz combo including AU Professor of Music Dr. Thomas Reed on saxophone and clarinet, AU alumnus Paul Martin on bass, local musician Lanny Gooding on piano and Jim Rupp, who is the drummer for the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and has toured with Tony Bennett, Diane Schuur, Maynard Ferguson and Woody Herman, on drums.
