2.3 percent of American University students played sports on university teams in 2016-2017

In 2016-2017, 2.3 percentage of American University students participated in collegiate sports, according to data made available by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

American University has 8,123 undergraduate students, of which 62 percent are women and 38 percent are men, and a total student body of 13,858 students. Of these students, 146 men and 167 women represented the school by participating in one or more of the sports with teams at the school.

This total does not include students playing intramural sports.

According to NCES, 4.3 percent of students enrolled at institutions of higher education with sports teams were on teams.

The sports at American University with the most participants are all track combined (100), soccer (56) and swimming and diving (32).
