Gonzaga University will welcome 43 students to its comprehensive leadership program from among 137 applicants of the undergraduate class of 2019.

“These students, with their numerous talents and wealth of experiences, will continue the tradition of studying leadership imbued with an intellectual and ethical fervor for the common good in an interdisciplinary, academic setting,” program director Josh Armstrong said.

Musicians, athletes, student government leaders and academic scholars alike are among this class who have shown a commitment to the community as well. The class incorporates a wide geographic region that spans more than half the country, with students coming from Arizona, California, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

The class, with its broad geographical and extracurricular background, continues that theme with its choice of majors. Gonzaga’s College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Education, School of Engineering and Applied Science and School of Nursing and Human Physiology are all represented.

“The interplay between their academic undertakings and leadership development promises to provide them with further insight and skills to utilize in their extracurricular endeavors at Gonzaga and their professional careers upon graduation,” Armstrong said. “The impressive backgrounds and leadership positions of this class are only the starting point of their years at Gonzaga and their careers to come. Over the next three years, they will be challenged in new ways to understand themselves, their world, and their role in being leaders for others.”

The three-year program offers students curricular and co-curricular learning opportunities to develop their leadership skills.
