Temple College starts a recycling program

Michael Morris, technical director in the Fine Arts Division at Temple (Texas) College, is organizing a campus recycling program with help from employees around campus to become part of the “Green Team.”

Morris was inspired when he saw recyclable materials – paper, cardboard, and plastics – being thrown into the trash.

“Having no campus recycling program, our only choice has been to throw things away,” Morris said. “I wanted to have the option and choice to divert our recyclable materials from the landfill. And I figured that others might want that same choice. I see our recycling program being a win for the city of Temple, the city’s landfill, Temple College, and our entire community.”

Before the start of the spring semester, the city of Temple delivered four 96-gallon green-colored recycling containers that will help in the launch of the new program. The containers will have information on what can and cannot be thrown into them. The city will pick up the bins each Friday and take them to a facility in Austin.

Members of the “Green Team” include Cathy Coe-Clune, Dinh Lam, Jan Bogucki, Tami Lam and Reid Lewis.
