Ena Shelley, dean of Butler University’s College of Education, received the 2016 Edward C Pomeroy Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teacher Education, offered by the American Association of Colleges and Teacher Education.
As a professor since 1982 and dean since 2005, Shelley has
been an exemplary teacher and motivator behind initiatives to promote teacher
education.
She is the creator of the first memo of understanding that led to
the establishment of the Shortridge Magnet High School of Law and Public Policy -- now Shortridge International Baccalaureate High School -- and was a leader in
the creator of the Indianapolis Public Schools/Butler University Laboratory
School that focuses on early childhood education.
Shelley gives credit to her colleagues, saying that she has the dream team.
“There is a saying that ‘a leader is only as good as the team that surrounds them,’ and I have found that to be very true,” she said
Shelley has willingly explored the difficult issues in school and society at large to assist students in becoming agents of change, something that many in the field of education believe to be essential to growth for students as well as educators,
