The new Master of Arts in Special Education (MASE) degree program at Ashford University has been developed according to national special education standards to meet the needs of learners with disabilities.
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the employment of special education teachers will likely rise 17 percent between 2010 and 2020 as a result of increased demand. The outcry for special needs educators has heightened as more children with learning disabilities and other special needs are being enrolled in K-12 education programs.
Ashford's MASE does not offer teacher certification, but instead is geared toward teachers who are already certified and wish to have additional endorsements or work in areas of special education that don’t require a certificate.
Employment opportunities for graduates of the MASE program include education consultant, gifted and talented specialists, mentors, behavior interventionists, and assistive technology specialists. Arenas for employment include nonprofit organizations, hospitals, public and alternative schools, residences, and hospitals or clinics.
Students graduating with the MASE at Ashford University may also pursue higher education opportunities and specializations, including doctoral studies and other research endeavors.
