Emporia State joins Partnership for a Healthier America

Emporia State University recently joined the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), which will entail adoption of guidelines to promote healthy eating and exercise.

The PHA aims to promote healthy choices with support from companies. The university states that it is the first in Kansas to join this initiative.

As a part of its efforts, Emporia State aims to offer healthier dining options that consist of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It will also be promoting increased water consumption with free water at all dining and athletic venues. 

It also plans to encourage greater physical activity among students through bicycle sharing and rental programs, classes on different activities and exercises.

“Colleges and universities are in a unique position to help shape tomorrow’s leaders. The college years are a time when lifelong habits begin to form, and for many students, this is their first opportunity to make their own choices about food and lifestyle,” PHA CEO Lawrence Soler said. “By creating healthier food and physical activity environments today, campuses and universities are encouraging healthier habits that will carry into tomorrow and for decades to come.”
