The University of New Orleans’ Lakefront Arena recently placed second on Venues Today’s 2016 Top Stops list for the Deep South.

The Lakefront Arena, which seats 10,000, grossed a total of $4.13 million from March 1, 2015 to Feb. 29, 2016. The monetary total includes earnings from concerts and events hosted by the arena.

First open in November 1983, the Lakefront Arena has hosted an array of live entertainment events and has been visited by more than 12 million patrons. The arena has hosted concerts, family and comedy shows, commencement ceremonies and athletic events.

Promoters for these events include Live Nation, AEG, Beaver Productions, FELD Entertainment, VEE Corporation and North American Entertainment.

Recent updates to the arena include a VIP lounge and upgraded food services. It hosted the start of The Cure’s U.S. tour with shows on May 10-11 and Fantasia and Anthony Hamilton on May 14. All three events sold out.

According to R.V. Baugus from Venues Today, sites that “add an extra scoop of down-home friendliness” and provide an enjoyable experience for artists and fans make the list.

Lakefront Arena will celebrate 33 years of operation in November of this year.
