Bridgewater College recently awarded this year’s Witters Psychology Awards in the categories of Outstanding Research and Outstanding Leadership to Brandy Dinklocker and Shelby Edmisten, respectively.
Dinklocker presented her honors project,
“Longitudinal Effects of Adolescent Nicotine or Alcohol Use on Cocaine Reward
and Anxiety in Mice,” in April at the Virginia Academy of Clinical
Psychologists Spring Convention. She also took part in a Greater Augusta
Prevention Partners Coalition internship, through which she focused on the
Drug-Free Community Grant. Dinklocker is also the vice president of Bridgewater’s
Alpha Chi and Psi Chi chapters and is in the Flory Honors Program.
The school honored Edmisten for her display
of leadership across the campus, serving as president of the Psi Chi chapter
and on the community team of the Spiritual Life Board. She is also a member of
the Bridgewater College Babysitters and previously offered her tutoring
services through the Academic Support Center.
The awards are named after Donald Witters, who served as a professor of psychology from 1968-2006. He chaired
Bridgewater’s psychology department from 1990-96, and retired as professor
of psychology emeritus.
Dinklocker and Edmisten received a
certificate and gift in recognition of their awards and will have their names
added to plaques in the department.
