Transylvania University is opening two new resident halls on campus.

The renovations which have been made to the campus will aid in the education and experience that students earn, President Seamus Carey believes.

"The new buildings are not only attractive living spaces, but they also provide a college experience that integrates living and learning," Carey said.

The new additions include the four-story Bassett and Pioneer halls, which are both state-of-the-art, and also some new athletic facilities, with basketball and sand volleyball courts, a pavilion and green space.

The new buildings will each have a 140 student housing capacity, approximately, and will include lounges, laundry facilities and kitchens. The buildings are coed and each room will include Tempur-Pedic bedding as well as ceiling fans.

Bassett Hall, which was named after James E. "Ted" Bassett III, a member of the university's board of trustees, will have suites for upper-class students, while Pioneer Hall will have its two first floors be dedicated to the university's fraternities.

Students have begun moving into the new halls, as they prepare for the start of the new semester.
