Lakota artist urges students to defy expectations

Michael Two Bulls, the Lakota artist known for juxtaposing old images with pop art, recently told students at the University of South Dakota that art can be a way to "break the mold."

“A lot of my work takes a glimpse into the past," he said. "Taking old stories and adding a twist."

Two Bulls, the university’s summer 2016 artist in residence, was on hand to present a lecture on printmaking and to show some of his work, which often examines topics like drug addiction, tribal identity and historical reconciliation, and land rights.
