ExxonMobil Corp. provides grants to Lamar engineering departments

ExxonMobil Corp. has awarded $17,000 in grants to four engineering departments at Lamar University.

This donation comes as part of the company’s national program to support higher education. The grants include $7,000 to the chemical engineering department, $6,000 to mechanical engineering, $3,000 to electrical engineering and $1,000 to civil engineering.

“ExxonMobil recognizes the importance of high-quality education for its workforce and makes supporting universities an integral part of its long-term business strategy,” Srinivas Palanki, dean of Lamar University’s College of Engineering, said. “We are pleased to be partners with ExxonMobil and appreciate these generous departmental grants.”

Academic departments can use the grant for various education purposes. These may include scholarships, field trips, visiting speakers, equipment purchases and more. The amount is based on many factors, including ExxonMobil’s recruiting success in the past with Lamar.

ExxonMobil also supports education initiatives that encourage Lamar students to explore math and science careers. Additionally, it supports teacher development by providing instructors with professional development opportunities in science and math.
