Walter Bumphus, president and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), was recently honored as the recipient of the Baldrige Foundation’s 2021 Leadership Award for Leadership Excellence.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this award,” Bumphus said in a post on the AACC website. “It is a testament to the work that our community colleges do each day to eliminate barriers to student success.

Bumphus said the effort to close the achievement gaps is one that never stops, according to the post. Yet, it plays a vital role in helping all Americans pursue a better life.

“I share this award with all community college leaders and the millions of students they serve,” he said.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the AACC serves as a voice for the nation’s community colleges, according to the post. The non profit association boasts approximately 1,000 member colleges and serves as both an advocacy organization and a resource to member colleges.
