Simpson has strong showing in Missouri State Speech & Debate event

Simpson College recently posted several top honors at the Missouri State Speech & Debate tournament in St. Louis. 

Two novice Public Forum teams -- Lydia Magalhaes and Randy Paulson (first place) and Matthew Haynie, Sarah Heiderstadt (second place) -- placed in the final round. Magalhaes also took home the top speaker title from the tournament and earned other accolades, including placing second in Program Oral Interpretation, where she was also named Top Novice.

Paulson also placed in Public Forums, coming in sixth. Paul Safford and Tegan Jarchow made it to the semifinals for varsity in this division, with Safford named third speaker at the tournament. Val Wilson brought home seventh place in Persuasion, and overall, the team came in third for team points in the President’s division.

Other students representing Simpson were Danielle Bates, Marissa Belau and Bobbi Fogle.
