The University of Tampa's new logos include a Spartan head and a more collegiate typeface that is intended to introduce a stronger and more unified brand.

Athletic director Larry Marfise said the new Spartan head in profile is prouder, stronger and more honorable, characterizing the expectations for student-athletes.

The new logo, which reinforces an already strong brand created by the University of Tampa, was designed by Joe Bosack at Joe Bosack & Co. of Pennsylvania. The updated Spartan logos are to be featured in the new Fitness and Recreation Center that is currently being constructed.

The Spartan was chosen as the mascot for UT in the 1930s, when the school's biggest rival was St. Petersburg College, who had the Trojans as a mascot. The interlocking UT is to remain part of the logo with the newly designed Spartan head, and will be used on uniforms and athletic equipment.

The University of Tampa Spartans play in the Sunshine State Conference and have won 15 NCAA Division II national championships, as well as 56 conference titles since 2000.
