The Blinn College Board of Trustees announced last week that Collier Construction has been awarded a guarantee of $716,000 for the construction of a new athletic training facility.
The facility will be constructed during the spring and will include batting cages, meeting rooms and a weight training room. This 11,200-square-foot project is estimated to cost $836,000 and has been funded exclusively by donations.
Among those who donated were the estates of Janette and Ruben Schmidt, Bernice Leissner and a gift from former Blinn College athlete Doyle Coatney. He was a member of the football, basketball and track teams during his time as a student. These gifts were made to the Blinn College Foundation, which supports programs, scholarships and activities.
The college also supports the Janette & Ruben Schmidt Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to graduates of Round Top-Carmine High School.
