The University of Evansville community members were recently recognized during the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana Awards.

The Arts Council Ensemble Award was given to the Eykamp String Quartet, consisting of violinists Robert Anemone and Alicia Choi; violist Rose Wollman; and cellist Kirsten Jermé. All four serve as performers within the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and as artists in residence at the university.

Professor of music Anne Fiedler was awarded the council’s Artist Award. Fiedler also serves as the head of keyboard instruction and is often providing accompaniment for faculty recitals within the community. Through this work, she performs on more occasions than any other music professor at the university.

The 2016 Mayor’s Arts Award was given to Steve and Susan Worthington. Both are involved in arts organizations with the university and have served as volunteers and patrons with the Evansville Museum and the Willard Library. Steve serves as a member of the museum board of directors and Susan performs as a member of the Bethlehem United Church of Christ’s bell choir.

The council’s Arts Advocate Award was presented to Robert Shelter, owner of Shelter Moving and Storage. The company has supported the university’s theater department by providing free transportation of sets, costumes and lighting for regional and national festivals.
