In her first year as a student at the University of Arkansas, Air Force Master Sgt. Latisha Bowen has earned two regional awards.

Bowen received the Senior Non-commissioned Officer of the Quarter award for March in the Air Force ROTC Southwest Region, which is comprised of nearly 36 detachments. Bowen has also been nominated for the Headquarters AFROTC Lance P. Sijan USAF Leadership Award.

"Prior to my arrival at the University of Arkansas last month, I was told that Master Sgt. Bowen was a top-performer among her peers even though she was a young senior NCO and relatively new at the AFROTC Detachment," detachment commander Lt. Col. Marc E. Wolfe said. "Needless to say, I'm extremely proud and honored to serve alongside her."

The successful candidate for the senior NCO award is required to have a record of substantial self-improvement, which can be schooling, training or promotion to a higher rank. Bowen received a promotion to master sergeant in August of last year, right before she began attending the University of Arkansas.

A successful candidate would also be involved in community service. Bowen does various tasks for St. Jude’s.
