The Virginia Athletic Trainers' Association (VATA) recently named Bridgewater College Assistant Professor of Health and Human Science Dr. Charles Hale IV as their Educator of the Year, an award he will receive at the association's annual meeting in January.

VATA works to improve health care provided by athletic trainers in the state through initiatives that promote education, advocacy and collaborations with other health care professionals and organizations.

Hale is a member of VATA, in addition to the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association.

For school, Hale attended James Madison University, from which he holds bachelor's and master's degrees in health science and health science education; and Shenandoah University, from which he holds a doctoral degree in organizational leadership.

Hale has taught at Bridgewater College -- a private college that is home to approximately 1,900 undergraduate students -- since 2002.

"I am honored to receive this recognition and thankful to the VATA for their dedication to athletic training education," he said. "As an educator, it’s my desire to mentor, challenge, and support our students to the best of my ability. With God’s blessing, through the support of my colleagues, students and family, I have been allowed to pursue my passion for teaching."
