Boise State University issued the following announcement on March 21, 2018.
Boise State University’s College of Education is again ranked among the top 50 public universities on the US News and World Report 2019 best graduate schools list. The college has climbed in rankings every year for the last five years.
The college climbed 3 spots in overall ranking to No. 54, and is No. 43 of ranked public universities. This ranking is the highest to date for the college and puts it in the top 3 in the Northwest, the top 3 in the Intermountain West and the top 15 in the West.
The annual rankings consider factors related to reputation of employers, quality of graduate students and programs, faculty research activity and external funding, and peer evaluations. Nearly 400 graduate schools of education were surveyed, with University of California-Los Angeles and Harvard University claiming the top two spots respectively.
“Fifteen years ago, President Kustra set a course for Boise State University to become a metropolitan research university of distinction, and this recognition from US News and World Report is substantive evidence of that distinction,” said Rich Osguthorpe, dean. “The continued rise in ranking of the College of Education is a direct reflection of its outstanding faculty, staff, students and community partners who strive for excellence in preparing the next generation of educational leaders.”
“The College of Education launched the first doctoral program at Boise State 25 years ago so our programs are still relatively young,” said Keith Thiede, associate dean. “Our commitment to continuous improvement has helped us rise in rank the last five years. With our outstanding faculty, staff and students there is no limit to how high we can climb.”
The College of Education offers two doctoral programs, two educational specialist degrees, 15 master’s degrees and 11 graduate certificate programs training Idaho’s future teachers and educational leaders.
Students seeking a graduate degree from the College of Education have access to more than 200 partnerships with Idaho schools and organizations to gain valuable, hands-on learning experiences.
The College of Education’s doctorate of education in curriculum and instruction was Boise State’s first doctoral degree, beginning in 1993, and continues to provide students with the practical perspectives and research tools for improving teaching and learning. The doctorate in education technology, which enrolled its first group of students in 2012, was Boise State’s first fully online doctoral degree. This year, the college celebrates 25 years of doctoral study.
