Graduates earn 126 degrees from American University of Puerto Rico

About 33.3 percent of the 126 degrees and certificates handed out by the American University of Puerto Rico in 2016-17 were to students in Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting and Related Protective Services programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the private not-for-profit institution in Manati conferred 31 bachelor's degrees and 11 associate's degrees in Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting and Related Protective Services programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice/Safety Studies. Data shows the school gave out 31 bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice/Safety Studies, followed by 18 master's degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and 16 bachelor's degrees in Accounting.

The university enrolled 804 students for 2016-17, including 757 in undergraduate programs and 47 in graduate programs.
