About 46.1 percent of the 141 degrees and certificates handed out by the American University of Puerto Rico in 2016-17 were to students in Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting and Related Protective Services programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.
The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the private not-for-profit institution in Bayamon conferred 43 bachelor's degrees and 12 associate's degrees in Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting and Related Protective Services programs.
But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice/Safety Studies. Data shows the school gave out 43 bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice/Safety Studies, followed by 16 master's degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and 12 associate's degrees in Criminal Justice/Safety Studies.
The university enrolled 626 students for 2016-17, including 589 in undergraduate programs and 37 in graduate programs.
